From the Andes to the high rainforest, crossing the cloud forest.
- The adventure begins early in Cusco, travelling through Andean landscapes towards Manu National Park.
- Our first stop is the Ninamarca chullpas, ancient pre-Inca remains that reveal part of the region's history while we enjoy wide open landscapes.
- We continue to Paucartambo, a picturesque colonial village known for its cultural traditions, where we have time to see its main attractions.
- From Paucartambo we climb to the Acjanaco Pass (4,000 m) and begin a spectacular descent into the cloud forest. As we drop, the high Andean environment gives way to increasingly humid, lush vegetation, with stops to look for birds, orchids, bromeliads and ferns.
- In the San Pedro area we visit an observation platform, where we have the chance to look for the cock-of-the-rock, Peru's national bird.
- At the end of the day we reach Bambú Lodge, in a tropical setting. After settling in we enjoy dinner and the guide explains the following day's activities.

- After breakfast at the lodge we continue our descent towards the tropical rainforest.
- Our first stop is the Hummingbird Garden, a local initiative where we watch different species of these small, colourful birds and learn about the flora typical of the area.
- We reach the port of Atalaya, where we leave the road transport behind. We board a boat and sail along the Alto Madre de Dios River, enjoying the Amazonian scenery and the gradual change to a warmer, tropical environment.
- We arrive at Soga de Oro Lodge, surrounded by nature and quiet, with time to settle in and rest.
- In the afternoon we set out on an exploration walk of about 4 hours, with climbs and descents, along natural trails to a high point with panoramic views of the Amazon forest, the river and the surroundings. Our guide helps us interpret the forest's flora and fauna and, with luck, we may see monkeys, birds and other species. Afterwards we return to the lodge for dinner.
Soga de Oro Lodge – Parrot Clay Lick – Machuwasi Lake – Night walk
A full day of wildlife watching, from sunrise to nightfall.
- The day starts very early, to make the most of the best conditions for wildlife watching.
- We sail by boat to a parrot clay lick, a natural site where different species of parrots and parakeets gather to feed on the clay. Depending on the day's conditions, other bird species may also be seen.
- We continue to Machuwasi Lake, where we take a calm trip on a traditional wooden raft. Surrounded by Amazonian vegetation, the lake is an ideal setting to look for birds, monkeys, insects and other animals. Sightings always depend on the weather and the behaviour of the wildlife.
- In the afternoon we return to the lodge, with time to rest or take a short exploration walk nearby, depending on the day's conditions.
- At nightfall we can join an optional night walk, a different experience to discover the sounds and activity of the wildlife that comes out after dusk. We then return to the lodge for dinner and rest.
Soga de Oro Lodge – Atalaya – Cloud Forest – Cusco
The return along the river and through the cloud forest to the Andes.
- After breakfast we sail along the Alto Madre de Dios River to the port of Atalaya, where we board our road transport.
- The return journey takes us back through the different landscapes of the route: from the tropical rainforest to the cloud forest and, finally, the Andes.
- If weather conditions and time allow, we take a last exploration walk in the cloud forest to enjoy the surroundings and observe some of the species typical of this ecosystem.
- We continue on to Cusco, arriving in the afternoon and completing an unforgettable experience in the Cultural Zone of Manu.

It is an ecosystem of great biodiversity. During the stops you may see different species of birds, as well as orchids, bromeliads, ferns and other plants characteristic of this ecosystem.
Is it possible to see the cock-of-the-rock?
Yes. In the San Pedro area we visit an observation platform where you can look for the cock-of-the-rock, Peru's national bird. As this is wildlife, sightings are not guaranteed and depend on natural conditions and the birds' behaviour.
Which animals can I see during the tour?
Depending on the day's conditions, you may see cocks-of-the-rock, hummingbirds, parrots, parakeets, monkeys, various bird species, insects and other rainforest animals. Sightings are entirely natural and therefore cannot be guaranteed.
What is the visit to the parrot clay lick like?
It takes place early on the third day. We sail by boat to a clay lick where different species of parrots and parakeets may gather to feed on the clay. Other birds may also be seen, depending on the weather and their natural behaviour.
What is Machuwasi Lake?
It is a natural setting of calm waters that we explore on a traditional wooden raft. During the trip you can look for birds, monkeys, insects and other species that live around this ecosystem.
Is the night walk included?
The night walk is optional and subject to weather and safety conditions. It is a chance to discover the sounds and activity of different species after dusk.
Do I need to bring binoculars?
They are not compulsory, but they are highly recommended for watching birds, monkeys and other animals at a distance. You can also request binocular rental as an add-on.
What kind of footwear do I need?
Trekking shoes or comfortable footwear with good grip for the walks. The programme also provides rubber boots for excursions and activities in wet areas of the rainforest.
What is the accommodation like?
