The essence of the Sacred Valley: traditional villages, Andean landscapes and Inca archaeological sites, before taking the train towards Machu Picchu.
- The experience begins with the pick-up from your hotel in Cusco at around 7:30 a.m., to set off towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
- The first stop is Chinchero, where we visit the archaeological site, with its wide agricultural terraces and Inca walls standing alongside colonial architecture.
- Next we meet the local communities at their textile centre, where they share the Andean weaving tradition with you: the natural dyeing process using plants and minerals, and the loom techniques passed down from generation to generation.
- We continue to Moray, known for its impressive circular terraces. It is believed that the Incas used it as an agricultural laboratory, as each level creates a different microclimate that allowed them to experiment with a variety of crops.
- A few minutes away we visit the Maras salt pans, a complex of more than three thousand stepped pools fed by a natural salt spring that has been used since pre-Inca times. It is one of the most photographed landscapes in the valley.
- At midday we make a lunch stop in Urubamba, in the heart of the Sacred Valley, with a buffet of typical Andean and international dishes, including a vegetarian option.
- In the afternoon we continue to Ollantaytambo, one of the best-preserved Inca towns in Peru. We walk its cobbled streets and visit its imposing fortress, strategically built on the mountainside.
- Afterwards we board the tourist train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, a journey of around 2 hours in which the landscapes gradually change from the high Andes to the lush vegetation of the cloud forest.
- You will spend the night at a comfortable hotel in Aguas Calientes. If you wish, you can wander its streets, visit its attractions or simply look at the stars before the most awaited moment of the trip.
Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco
The most awaited moment of the trip: the Inca citadel with a private guide, and the return to Cusco through the Sacred Valley.
- The day starts early, after breakfast at the hotel. With your guide we head to the bus station to travel up to Machu Picchu, a journey of around 25 minutes revealing the biodiversity that surrounds the wonder of the world.
- On arrival we explore the most important structures of the citadel, according to the assigned circuit, while your private guide reveals the history and the mysteries behind each sector. The guided visit lasts between 2 and 3 hours and, as it is private, you will have time to stop and take photographs at your own pace.
- After the visit we return by bus to Aguas Calientes, where we have lunch at Café Inkaterra or a similar establishment. Afterwards you will have free time to wander its streets or explore its colourful local market.
- In the late afternoon we board the tourist train back to Ollantaytambo, whose wide windows allow you to enjoy the landscapes throughout the journey.
- On arrival in Ollantaytambo, our staff will be waiting with a sign bearing your name for the private transfer back to your hotel in Cusco, where we arrive between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m.

Before you book
The tour operates all year round. The dry season, from April to October, offers sunnier days and clearer skies, while the rainy season, from November to March, brings more frequent showers and greener, more luxuriant vegetation. To arrange the Machu Picchu ticket and the train tickets we need each passenger's details exactly as they appear on the passport; without that information the permits cannot be purchased. The original, valid document is required to enter the citadel.

Can I choose my entrance time to Machu Picchu?
We will do everything possible to arrange your preferred time. However, entrance times are subject to availability when the booking is confirmed and must be compatible with the tour itinerary.
How long does the guided visit to Machu Picchu last?
Approximately 2 to 3 hours, although it may extend slightly depending on your walking pace. As it is a private service, you will have enough time to make stops, take photographs and learn about the history of the citadel in detail with your guide.
Can I add Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain to this tour?
Yes, both options can be added, subject to availability. These hikes require moderate fitness and it is best not to suffer from vertigo, especially on the climb to Huayna Picchu. You will find the price of the Huayna Picchu entrance in the Price tab; for Machu Picchu Mountain, please ask our sales team.
Which train does the tour include?
The PeruRail Expedition or Inca Rail Voyager train, subject to availability. Both offer comfortable seats and wide panoramic windows for enjoying the landscapes of the Sacred Valley and the Andes. If you would like a superior experience, you can request an upgrade to the Vistadome or the Vistadome Observatory; the prices are in the Price tab.
Does the tour include breakfast on the first day?
No. Breakfast on the first day is not included. We recommend having breakfast at your hotel before departure or requesting a box breakfast to take with you during the tour.
Which meals are included?
The buffet lunch on the first day at the Unu restaurant in Urubamba, with a vegetarian option, and breakfast at the hotel and lunch on the second day at Café Inkaterra or a similar establishment. If you wish, you can upgrade the day 2 lunch to the Sanctuary Lodge Tinkuy buffet, right beside the citadel.

From what age do children pay at Machu Picchu?
Children from the age of 3 require a ticket and are eligible for special rates according to their age and nationality. To access these rates it is necessary to present a valid passport or identity document when booking and during the visit. Our team will inform you of the corresponding rates.
Will I be able to buy textiles or local products during the tour?
Yes. During the visit to the Chinchero textile centre and the Maras salt pans you will have time to look at and buy products made by the local communities.
Can I bring a suitcase or a large backpack?
For a more comfortable experience, we suggest bringing only a small backpack with the essentials for the day.
Where can I leave my main luggage?
On the train to Aguas Calientes up to 8 kg per passenger is allowed, but we recommend travelling with only a small backpack. Your main luggage can stay at your hotel in Cusco, as most offer free luggage storage for their guests, or at our office, also free of charge. Alternatively, some train stations offer this service.
Does the tour include a transfer to my hotel?
Yes. The service includes the pick-up from your hotel in Cusco on the first day and the private transfer back from Ollantaytambo to your hotel on the second day.
Who will meet us on arrival at Ollantaytambo station?
Our staff will be waiting with a sign bearing your name to assist you and take you comfortably back to Cusco.
How does the booking process work?
Step 1. Availability enquiry. Write to us at info@sakuraexpedition.com to check the available dates. We will send you a booking form for each participant to complete.
Step 2. Passenger details. To arrange your official Machu Picchu ticket and the train tickets we need, exactly as they appear on the passport, full name, gender, passport number, date of birth (dd/mm/yyyy) and nationality. Without this information it is not possible to purchase permits or tickets.
Step 3. Deposit and confirmation. Once the forms have been received, we request a deposit of USD 200 per person to proceed with the purchase of permits. We recommend booking in advance, as places sell out quickly.
Step 4. Final confirmation. Once the permits are secured, you will receive your official confirmation invoice and your booking will be 100 % guaranteed.

Tips are entirely voluntary. Our whole team receives fair pay, so any gratuity is left to your discretion.
