At your arrival at the city of Cusco’s airport, a representative of the Sakura Expedition travel agency will be awaiting your presence, in order to be able to take you to your chosen hotel that you have reserved in part of the City Tour. We recommend you to arrive early at the city of Cusco, due to the fact that in the afternoon you will be embarking on the City Tour.
At approximately 13:30 hrs, you will be collected from your hotel in order to be able to take part in the City Tour in the city of Cusco, your first location that you will visit will be the Temple of Qoricancha (A Golden Enclosure) this place was once one of the most important ceremonial centres for the Incas in which the most important ceremonies were performed, at the same time it was used to keep the main idols they had as Gods. After your visit to this important location you will go to visit the second tourist spot of the City Tour.
The second tourist spot on the City Tour will be the Archeological centre of Sacsayhuaman, the “ceremonial fortress” of Sacsayhuamán is, with its megalithic walls, the greatest architectural work that the Incas performed during their heyday. From the fortress there is a unique panoramic view of the surroundings, including the city of Cusco. This place has a rich history that dates back to the Incan and Colonial period, in this location we will have a guided tour of approximately 50 minutes in order to tour the entire Archeological site and be able to take photos peacefully.
For the third location on our City tour of the city of Cusco, we will visit the ceremonial center of Qenqo (labyrinth) that receives this name in Quechua language for its short and zigzagging passages, this is a very special place. In the Andean worldview, this huaca was built to evoke Kaypacha, the ancient snake or origin of life. In addition, the ancient Peruvians used this site to communicate with other deities such as the sun, the mountain, the moon, the earth and the stars. Everything is arranged in a secret and magical way: the canals, the labyrinths, the amphitheatre and the sacrificial room
Our fourth stop on this City Tour will be in Puca Pucara, this fortress was a point of control for those who entered and left the city of Cusco, this place is composed of large walls, terraces and staircases that were part of the defensive complex of the city of Cusco in particular and the Inca Empire in general.
Our fifth and final destination to end this City Tour is called Tambomachay (Quechua: tampu mach’ay, ‘resting place’), it consists of an archaeological site that was destined for the cult of water and so that the potentate of the Inca Empire could rest. It consists of a series of aqueducts, canals and several waterfalls that run through the rocks. Highlight from this is the main waterfall that the Incas created two secondary waterfalls, both exactly the same.
Once the tour is finalised at 18:30 hrs our tour will end at the midpoint of the city of Cusco a few blocks from the Plaza de Armas, so that all the tourists can make their way to their hotel independently.
